A Renewed Mandate of Love and Leadership: Second General Chapter
On October 16, 2025, the Society of St. Eugene de Mazenod (SDM) witnessed its second historic General Chapter, reaffirming its mission with renewed strength and spiritual clarity. The Superior General and his dedicated team were elected in the morning, entrusted once again with the sacred responsibility of guiding the Society forward. This moment marked not only a continuation of leadership but also a deepening of the Society’s commitment to its founding vision.
The newly elected members step into their roles with hearts full of reverence and resolve. They carry forward the torch lit by Fr. Gerard Francis OMI, the founder of SDM, embracing their mandate not as mere administrators, but as shepherds of a community called to love the unloved and reach the unreached. Their leadership is a living tribute to the founder’s spirit—a beacon of hope for the marginalised and a testament to faith in action.
This second General Chapter is more than a procedural milestone; it is a spiritual renewal. It reminds every member of SDM that the soul of Fr. Gerard Francis OMI continues to guide them, whispering through their service, shining through their unity, and inspiring every act of mercy and mission. With humility and dedication, the Society moves forward—rooted in legacy, reaching toward love.

Message from the Superior General
“Strengthened by the Spirit, United for the Mission”
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
It is with gratitude and hope that I reach out to you through this message. As brother priests, deacons, brothers, friends and benefactors of the Society of St. Eugene De Mazenod, we continue our journey of faith under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who strengthens and unites us for the mission entrusted to us by Christ.
The theme “Strengthened by the Spirit, United for the Mission” captures the essence of our identity and purpose. It reminds us that the Spirit of God is the source of our zeal, our unity, and our perseverance. We are not alone in our efforts; we are instruments of the Spirit, called to witness to God’s mercy and love in a world that hungers for meaning and healing.
Our unity in the Spirit gives life to our mission. As consecrated men and women, priests, and lay collaborators, we form one family, each contributing uniquely to the mission of the Church. Together, we are called to proclaim Christ where He is least known, to bring hope where despair abounds, and to build communities of faith rooted in compassion and service.
In a world marked by fragmentation and fear, our vocation is to be signs of communion. The Spirit calls us to overcome barriers, to foster dialogue, and to walk humbly with those entrusted to our care. This unity is not uniformity, but a harmony born of love — the love that flows from the heart of Christ and compels us to serve.
May the Spirit of the Lord continue to strengthen our hearts, renew our communities, and inspire our mission. Let us go forth with courage, joy, and fidelity, proclaiming the Good News by our words and our lives.
Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, St. Joseph, the inspiration of St. Eugene De Mazenod, and the blessings of our Founder, Very Rev. Fr. Gerard Francis OMI, may we always be “Strengthened by the Spirit, United for the Mission.”
United in prayer
